Rice Aquatics Masters Make Waves with Record-Breaking Performances at South Central Zone Championships

Rice Aquatics master swimmers delivered outstanding performances at the South Central Zone Championships (April 26-28), featuring record-breaking achievements and podium finishes.

Cameron Owen's exceptional performance in the 30-34 age group included breaking the 100 freestyle meet record and securing 1st place finishes in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 100 IM, and 50 breaststroke.

In the men's 35-39 age group, Kevin Nead dominated with victories in the 100 and 200 backstroke, and the 100 butterfly events.

Benjamin Swan showcased versatility in the 40-45 age group, securing 1st place finishes in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 backstroke, and 100 IM events, as well as a 2nd place finish in the 200 breaststroke. Dominic Mastracchio claimed 1st place in the 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle, 2nd in the 400 IM, 100 freestyle, and 50 freestyle, and 3rd in the 50 breaststroke.

In the women's 60-64 age group, Susan Matherne secured victories in the 50 butterfly and 100 IM, while also setting new meet records in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. In this same age group, David Guthrie cinched 1st place finishes in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke events, and broke the meet records in the 100 and 200 IM events.

In the men's 65-69 age group, John Fields stood out, breaking the 200 freestyle meet record and placing first in the 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly.

Finally, Bruce Williams achieved record-breaking success in the men’s 70-74 age group 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke events, and secured victories in the 50 backstroke and 200 free relay, also placing 3rd in the 100 backstroke.
